Actor Tom Holland Takes Break from 'Spider-Man

British actor Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man, has temporarily paused filming of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ after suffering a concussion during a stunt. Multiple production sources and leading news outlets confirm the injury is mild, and Holland is expected to return to set within days.

In a significant update for Marvel fans and the film industry, Tom Holland, the star of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ has been hospitalised and is now on a temporary break following a concussion sustained during an on-set stunt. As reported by Lisa Respers France at CNN, “Tom experienced a mild concussion and out of precaution, he will take a break from filming and is expected to return to work in a few days.” CNN’s Jack Guy contributed to this coverage, highlighting that production remains on track, with no other injuries reported on set.

Details of the Incident and Holland’s Condition

Multiple outlets, including The Independent and Deadline, state that Holland’s concussion, classified as mild, occurred during a stunt sequence filmed in Glasgow and resulted in brief hospitalisation. The Independent, citing Deadline, notes, “The star was later treated in hospital for concussion… Holland’s concussion is reportedly mild and happened during a stunt. No one else is reported to have been hurt.” Industry insiders assured that the actor’s health and safety are the top priority, confirming that his absence is “out of precaution” and he is anticipated to resume work within the week.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Response

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have signalled their support for Holland’s recovery, planning a meeting to coordinate production going forward, as reported by Tom Murray of The Independent. Despite the pause, the companies expect filming to proceed as soon as Holland is well. A source detailed to CNN that, “No other members of the crew were impacted, and production will proceed as scheduled”.

No Long-Term Delay Anticipated

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will only pause production for a week, with the film’s scheduled release date 31 July 2026 remaining unchanged. An insider quoted by USA TODAY confirmed, “Holland is anticipated to resume filming within a few days and no other individuals have been injured.” The same reports mention that Holland was seen at a charity event in London shortly after the incident, accompanied by his fiancée Zendaya, which further reassures fans about his condition.

Statements from Tom Holland and Crew

Though Holland has not personally commented on the injury at the time of writing, previously released promotional material reveals his enthusiasm for the project. As quoted by CNN from Holland’s July statements, “It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it that it’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air. I believe the fans will be thrilled with what we are creating”. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ director Destin Daniel Cretton, as cited by The Independent, said at CinemaCon, “I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before”.

What Happened On Set

As originally reported by The Independent, The Odyssey, and others, Holland’s injury reportedly occurred when a stunt line snapped, resulting in him feeling dizzy and necessitating observation in hospital. Thankfully, the incident did not result in any serious or lingering injury, and the actor was quickly released. Rolling Stone and Deadline confirm that the accident happened on a Friday, prior to the pause of filming the following week.

The Future of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

The fourth solo Spider-Man film, starring Holland, began shooting in Glasgow in August. As reported by Tom Murray of The Independent, the film marks a new beginning for the franchise, with a storyline inspired by major events from the Marvel comics. Holland has described the film as “a fresh start,” saying, “I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. That’s all I can say”. This is the first film of the series not to feature the word ‘home’ in the title, further representing the new chapter for both Holland and the character of Peter Parker.

Fans and Charity Appearances

Despite his mild concussion, Holland was seen at a charity event in London accompanied by his fiancée and co-star Zendaya, according to People Magazine and Fox News Digital. Though he reportedly left the event early because he wasn’t feeling well, his presence there has been viewed as a positive indication of his recovery.
